For my first group song, me and Rob have chosen to do Stockholm syndrome by Muse with me on guitar and vocals and Rob on drums. In today's practice, I learnt the opening riff to the song. The riff, I find, is extremely hard because it is very fast and quick changes with extremely fast up strum - down strum picking. I found it hard because getting the strumming pattern right with the quick changes, for example, it goes 12th fret, open, 13th, open, then 12th again, all in very fast strumming/picking. I practiced this by, as per usual, playing it through slowly and gradually getting faster and faster so I could get used to the changes and the strumming pattern, and the position of open string strums in relation to the others. I really do need to keep practicing this though because it is very hard and I still struggle with it.
When I practiced it with Rob, it went very well first try, which is surprising as that never happens. We both played in time and didn't speed up or slow down at all.
